NCAA College Football
College football betting is massive in the US, particularly in SEC and Big Ten country. The 12-team College Football Playoff (expanded from 4 in 2024) has dramatically increased postseason betting interest. Many states restrict betting on in-state college teams or prohibit player props on college athletes.

How to Bet on NCAAF
The main NCAAF markets you'll find at any legal US sportsbook, with a one-line take on each.
Point Spread
College football's defining bet. Spreads run wider than the NFL (10+ points common) because team-quality gaps are larger. Standard juice -110 both sides.
Moneyline
Pick the outright winner. Heavy favorites can hit -2000 against unranked opponents. Underdog moneylines in conference games offer real value when public bets the bigger brand.
Over/Under Totals
NCAAF totals range from 35 (Big Ten defensive battles) to 75+ (Air Raid offenses). Tempo and quarterback style drive totals more than in the NFL. Weather matters in November.
CFP Futures
College Football Playoff (12 teams since 2024) winner futures. The expanded format opened new value: bubble teams at +5000 to win it all became reasonable bets.
Heisman Trophy
The most-bet college individual award. Quarterbacks at top programs dominate (no defensive player has won since Charles Woodson, 1997). Best value before the season starts.

NCAAF Betting FAQ
Is it legal to bet on college football?
In most states with legal sports betting, yes. Five states (Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Virginia) restrict betting on in-state college teams. Others ban college player props specifically while allowing team bets.
When is the best time to bet College Football Playoff futures?
Preseason offers the longest odds and the most value, but you absorb full uncertainty. Mid-season (after week 6) is the sharpest window: you have data on team quality but bracket math is still wide open.
Why are NCAAF spreads so much wider than the NFL?
Talent gaps are massive in college football. A top-5 SEC team vs a Group of 5 program might differ by 35+ points in true ability. NFL teams are more parity-driven, so spreads cluster between -1 and -10.
Are bowl games good for betting?
They are tricky. Opt-outs from NFL-bound stars, coaching changes, and motivation gaps create volatility. The 12-team CFP killed most "minor" bowl interest, but second-tier bowls remain among the softest betting markets of the year.
