Overview

Sports betting in Georgia

Sports betting is not legal in Georgia. House Resolution 450 (which would have put the question on a statewide referendum) failed the Georgia House 63-98 earlier this year, well short of the 120 votes needed for the two-thirds constitutional threshold. The sports betting industry spent roughly $10.3 million across 34 Georgia legislative races in the 2026 cycle (coordinated through the Win for America super PAC funded by DraftKings, FanDuel, Fanatics, and bet365); industry-backed candidates won or advanced to runoff in 32 of 34. Realistic next attempt is the 2027 session.

Not Currently Legal

Sports betting is not currently legal in Georgia. Residents and visitors cannot place legal sports wagers within the state. Any sportsbook claiming to operate in Georgia without a state license is operating illegally. These offshore sites offer no consumer protections and you should avoid them.

Legal Alternatives

If you are traveling to a state where sports betting is legal, you can download a licensed sportsbook app before your trip and use it while physically present in the legal state. Always verify your location requirements before placing any bets.

Legislation status Active legislation
  • HB 910; Legalize mobile sports betting under the Georgia Lottery without requiring a constitutional amendment. (Filed in the 2026 session; committee review ongoing.)

HB 910's lottery-based approach avoids the amendment requirement, which improves its odds. If it passes in 2026, launch could follow in late 2026 or 2027.
